Very personal project

In April I saw my granddad napping outside on a couch, and it struck me how withdrawn and without energy he seemed. He was seriously ill, and the covid situation didn’t make it easier to search for a diagnosis. That afternoon, on a hunch, I started to paint him.

This year has brought too many goodbyes, and one of them was my beloved grandpa. Finishing this helped me grieve. It felt like a last service to him.

Thank you. Thank you for always having us for a sleepover when we were young, for repairing our toys and the plumbing, for driving us to and fro. I will not forget your kindness, your grumpiness, your pranks and your can-do approach to every problem that came your way.

And thank you, dear viewer, for checking out this personal project.
